Brand Product Review: Ole Henriksen Skincare

My mom introduced me to the brand Ole Henriksen a couple years ago.  She purchased a sample trial kit and loved it so much that she convinced me to try it out (we have very similar skin – olive tone semi-acne prone combination skin).

I’ve tried MANY products from their line but decided to focus this post on the ones that I loved and repurchased and the ones I didn’t enjoy or find effective.  I have included links below directly to the Ole Henriksen website.

Please note, that they do not ship to Canada or internationally  however you can purchase many of the products at Sephora. 🙂

My Faves!Sheer Transformation Creme

Description:
So sheer in texture, this luxurious oil-free cream feels light and silky as it penetrates the skin and helps fade discolorations such as freckles, age spots and sun damage without the use of chemicals. Instantly nourishes and retexturizes the skin, smoothes facial lines and provides intense free radical protection to prevent further damage.

My Review:
If you are going to tryout any product from this skincare line…this is the one to purchase …100%!!!  I have combination skin and this is my absolute favourite moisturizer.  I could not agree with the description more…it is light, oil-free, and silky!  It makes my skin soft and feel moisturized.  It soaks right into my skin, leaving no residue or sheen, and is scent-free….it’s the PERFECT product to wear under your makeup.  Truth Revealed Super Creme SPF 15

Description:
Reveal your true beauty by moisturizing with our new super creme to improve the texture and firmness of your skin. Incorporates what you love most about truth serum™ collagen booster while delivering superior hydration benefits.

My Review:
This is my go-to moisturizer in the summer.  Beyond the SPF 15, it’s perfect for when my skin needs some extra hydration from sun exposure.  It is a little thicker then the Sheer Transformation but still sinks into the skin and does not affect makeup application.    It has a slight citrus-orange-y smell.Walnut Complexion Scrub

Description:
Every so often, your complexion needs a little extra attention to enhance the skin’s natural renewal cycle. Nothing does this better than a densely textured, smooth gliding and terrifically energizing facial scrub. Activated with water, the finely ground walnut powder foams up and slips over the skin effortlessly to awaken beautiful glowing skin.

My Review:
I love facial scrubs!  I use a face scrubs 2-3 times a week and this one is definitely a winner!  Prior to discovering this product, I used LUSH’s Ocean Salt (which I still love, but I use it just on my body now).   The LUSH scrub was a salt base so I found that after a minute or two the salt would dissolve, so I couldn’t scrub as much or as hard as I would have liked.  The Walnut Complexion Scrub has a delicious nutty smell and leaves my skin silky smooth.  I thoroughly enjoy the massaging sensation of the ground walnuts.  I find the grounds a bit larger then most scrubs but they aren’t harsh on the skin because of the foaming product creating a slight barrier around them.Pure Truth Melting Cleanser

Description:
Experience our ultra hydrating 3 in 1 cleanser that transforms from a gel to a luxurious oil to a hydrating milk as you cleanse to effortlessly melt impurities and long-wear makeup. Rich in Vitamin C, Rose Hip, and Virgin Cherry Oils, this concentrated formula brightens, repairs, and nourishes the skin. Water activated, the unique oil emulsifies to milk that rinses clean, leaving skin refreshed, healthy, and luminous.

My Review:
I have to admit, I was SUPER skeptical when recommended this product by one of the Sephora sales ladies as I have combination skin that breaks out with oily products.   I received a sampe at Sephora and I instantly loved it!  The texture of the product is between a gel and a coconut oil however the second you apply it melts on your skin and removes all the impurities (every drop of my heavy makeup is removed!).  Once I apply water to it, it turns into a foggy/white shade and wipes right off.  I usually use this cleanser at night.  One super important  thing to note is that you need to apply it with dry hands on to dry skin or this product will not work.

It’s a pass!

Truth Serum Collagen Booster

Description:
Like a daily vitamin for your face, this high powered Vitamin C complex helps smooth out lines and wrinkles and prevents further damage. Loaded with antioxidants to fight off environmental aggressors and moisture-binding ingredients to keep your skin nourished and protected, this aromatic serum is absorbed instantly and penetrates to the deeper layers of the skin to provide long term results. Sensitive skin prone to irritation will benefit immensely from the calming properties of this oil-free serum.

My Review:
For some reason, almost every Ole Henkriksen value pack that I have received contains this product…and unfortunately, it’s not my favourite.  I didn’t see any difference or benefits after using it for a month.  My biggest issue it that the product dries down slightly sticky. My skin also feels slightly more stiff and uncomfortable after application. Ultimate Lift Eye Gel

Description:
Wake up to younger-looking, refreshed eyes. This new and improved formulation targets the entire eye region to dramatically lift, firm and de-puff while you sleep. Powered by our proprietary ultimate firming complex of bio peptides and hyaluronic acid to lift the sagging eye lid and brow, restore elasticity and diminish crows feet and wrinkles. Expertly balanced with soothing cucumber extract and micro algae, the cooling silky-gel wraps the delicate eye region to soothe and de-puff on contact. An overnight moisture barrier plumps skin with hydration. By morning, your youthful wide eyed appearance is restored.

My Review:
Does this product work?  Absolutely – I do see a visible change in the morning after using this!  Will I repurchase this product?  Absolutely not.   Like the product above, this product, for some reason, has come in every value pack that I have received.  My biggest issue with this product is the sticky gel texture and feeling on my skin.   After drying it feels like there is glue on your face (every movement you can feel).  It also sinks into the creases/wrinkles under my eyes making the top and bottom of the crease stick together so my lines are more visible at night and I can feel the tug on my skin when I close and open my eyes.  On a positive note, as I said above, the product does work…and has a lovely cucumber scent, but I can’t get over the texture 🙁

Invigorating Night Gel

Description:
Invigorating Night Treatment™ creates the appearance of smoother texture and a more even skintone and minimizes the appearance of pores.

My Review:
Once again, my biggest issue with this product is the sticky gel texture and feeling on my skin…especially after drying.  I didn’t see any changes to my skin and it slightly burned in some of the sensitive areas of my face.  The product smells like a mix of organize glue and cucumbers. It’s definitely a pass. (Note: it appears they have changed the formula or discontinued the product.  There is a new product in cream form…click here to check it out).

Are there any Ole Henriksen products you’ve tried?  Are there any others that you would like feedback on?  If so, leave it in the comments below….I’ve tried a bunch so I may have some advice for you. 😀
