Colourpop Ultra Satin Liquid Lipstick (Review & Swatches)

I have a love/hate relationship with Colourpop Cosmetics!  I love them because they keep creating amazing new innovative beauty products but I hate them cause they keep creating amazing new innovative beauty products….and I want to buy them all!!!!

Quick Backstory

I have to admit that I’ve been putting off this review for a while.  I first purchased 3 Colourpop Ultra Satin Liquid Lipsticks several months ago (around the time they launched) and absolutely loved them!   I couldn’t wait to review these for you….but, as Colourpop regularly does, they came out with a couple more shades, so I decided to hold off on the post until I ordered a couple more colours.

colourpop ultraUnfortunately, as I have mentioned in past posts, the second round of products that I purchased had different packaging.  The product’s doe foot tips were smaller with large bristles and the opening of the tube was bigger. The change in the doe foot made application less precise and the larger lid didn’t remove extra product so there was too much product on the applicator so it applied very cakey and messy.

I was so disappointed and debated putting up my review because I didn’t think it would be helpful to my readers (ie. “They used to be great but they aren’t any more. Hopefully they will be great again…Stay tuned.”).

BUT THEN a couple weeks ago, I read online that they switched back to their old packaging…so I bought one more, and YAY it was true. So…I knew it was time to write my post.

Product Pros & Cons

These liquid lipsticks are truly wonderful!  There is a variety of shades at an affordable price.  All of the colours are opaque, the formula is mousy, comfortable and lasts a long time*, and the tube has the perfect wand that applies the product beautifully (thank goodness!).

The only negatives worth mentioning with these is that the formula is quite thick and can be messy if you apply too much and that the packaging isn’t the best quality as the company logo and silver details have starting rubbing off (it doesn’t effect the lipstick, but worth mentioning).

Lastly, make sure to apply the product to dry lips…if there is any dampness on  your lips, the product may not apply properly (you will notice that on my inner bottom lip in some of the swatches).

*I should note that although they are very long wearing, they do not last as long as the Colourpop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks…that being said, you can do “touchups” – unlike the Ultra Mattes that look cakey when a second layer/ or touch up is applied.

SWATCH TIME!

Here are the swatches of the colours that I purchased with links to product pages.
(Note: I did not highlight my favourites this time, as I truly love them all.  Not one do I regret purchasing!).
