Ipsy Glam Bag – July 2016

image

Ok, let’s be honest…I’m a makeup addict!  I look at makeup as an art.   How can I transform my face differently?  How can I bring out my favourite features?  How can I add a pop of colour uniquely?  I’m not obsessed with makeup because I have low self esteem and it makes me feel better – it’s just fun playing around and putting on make up!

That being said, loving makeup and wanting to try new and improved products can get expensive.  So, last year, I decided to sign up for Ipsy.  Ipsy is a $10 US / month (+shipping) subscription service that sends you a glam bag (small makeup bag) with 5 deluxe samples or full sized products every month, selected especially for you based on preferences you select in their survey.  It’s the perfect way to try new products without the breaking the bank.   Plus, you get the excitement and anticipation of receiving the shiny pink package in your mailbox.

Here’s what I got this month:

theBalm Cosmetics Meet Matt(e) Trimony Eyeshadow in Matt Kumar

Product Description:   Triple milled just sounds attractive, doesn’t it? It means this shadow is super fine, making it smooth and easy to blend. Ultra-matte cranberry color.

My Review:   I’ve never owned a colour in this shade before but I absolutely love it (and not just because it has the cutest packaging).  The shadow is easy to apply, blends beautifully, and super buttery.  My only teeny tiny issue was that when I swipe my brush in the shadow a bit of shadow dust falls out…but that’s no big deal.  I definitely recommend this product!

bareMinerals Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipcolor in Swag

Product Description:  A silky, moisturizing, full-coverage mauve matte lipcolor in liquid form.  Its smooth, precise application and sweet scent of cake batter had us at first swipe. Built-in primer smoothes fine lines and imperfections. An infusion of minerals revitalizes lips for a healthy looking pout.

My Review:  Another adorably packaged product!  The colour I received is a pretty light dusty pink (1 shade pinker + 2 shades lighter then my natural lips) and smells deliciously sweet.  It has a straight, flat, and bendable doe foot applicator (I wasn’t expecting it to be so bendy…but that’s not a bad thing).  The lipstick has a light mousy texture that makes you feel like you aren’t wearing anything (no dryness!).   Unfortunately, the colour was one shade too light for my tanned olive skin tone and I did find this product slightly streaky…but I often find that with lighter liquid lipsticks.  So, I liked it but I’m not going to say “loved it” until I try a darker colour as well.

Eva NYC Get Glossed! Hair Serum

Product Description:  Keravis Protein triples the strength of hair, penetrating and coating the surface to condition, add shine, tame frizz and flyaways.  This hair serum also helps protect from heat damage.

My Review:  To put it simply – I really liked this product!  The serum has a light scent of vanilla and helped tame my frizz and ad shine (as promised in the description).   I put a little on my finger tips and applied it starting from ends (avoiding the roots).  I would definitely consider buying it in the future.

VASANTI COSMETICS Professional Contour Eyeshadow Brush

Product Description:  The high-quality nylon bristles on these brushes pick up the color and pack on the pigment. The long thin handles will have you feeling like a pro!  Professional Contour Eyeshadow Brush has domed-shape bristles perfect for blending in the crease and corners. Conquer the art of the eye contour and get seriously defined eyes with this pro shadow brush.

My Review: I LOVE THIS BRUSH!  It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for.  It’s soft bristles and shape is absolutely perfect for eye contour and create a light outer crease V.  Enough said…

Skyn ICELAND The ANTIDOTE Cooling Daily Lotion

Product Review: So fresh and so minty clean.  Icelandic kelp hydrates, detoxifies, soothes and calms inflammation.  Cooling sensation reduces redness for a calm, glowing complexion. Cloudberry and cranberry seed (the super fruits of the Arctic) boost hydration.

My Review:  The first thing I noticed about this product was that it had a spa-like light minty candy smell (similar to an AG conditioner I used as a teenager).  It tingled a little after applying which gave a lovely fresh / cooling sensation.  The lotion is a cross between a gel and a lotion, non-greasy, soaks in right away, and worked well under my makeup.  I didn’t notice a huge difference in my skin, and generally prefer a slightly thicker cream/lotion, but I’ve only used it 2 times….so the jury is still out.
